United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Open Pedagogy Fellowship Drug Database Patricia Rhea, Community College of Baltimore County (Maryland) Alicia Lammie, Maricopa Community Colleges (Arizona) 2021-2022 Introduction: You are a part of a collegewide effort to increase access to education and empower students through "open pedagogy." Open pedagogy is a "free access" educational practice that places you - the student - at the center of your own learning process in a more engaging, collaborative learning environment. The ultimate purpose of this effort is to achieve greater social justice in our community in which the work can be freely shared with the broader community. This is a renewable assignment that is designed to enable you to become an agent of change in your community through the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For this work, you will integrate the disciplines of Wellness and Substance Abuse to achieve SDG #3: Good Health and Well-Being. With a focus on Target 3.5, Strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, including narcotic drug abuse and harmful use of alcohol and Target 3.5, Strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, including narcotic drug abuse and harmful use of alcohol Learning Objectives: Cognitive Learning Objectives • The learner knows facts about addictive substances and understands data-backed treatment options as well as unconventional treatment options. Social-Emotional Learning Objectives • The learner is able to interact with people suffering from illnesses and feel empathy for their situation and feelings. Behavioral Learning Objectives • The learner is able to include health-promoting behaviors in their daily routines. • • The learner is able to plan, implement, evaluate and replicate strategies that promote health including a substance abuse-free lifestyle. The learner demonstrates the ability to teach peers about addiction and treatment as it relates to their personal topic and potentially their personal lives. Purpose/Rationale: To create a drug manual 1. Discover the physical and psychological effects on the body systems for the chosen drugs. 2. How the chosen treatment methods reduce these effects. [addiction] 3. Research similarities and differences of illegal and legal drug ramifications 4. Comparing conventional against unconventional treatment methods. 5. Present the material so as to educate your peers Instructions: Part I Research four drugs (one from each category: legal, illegal, alcohol and tobacco). Part II Research one conventional and one unconventional method of treatment for two (only two) of the drugs from Part I. Part III Peer reviewed feedback Part IV Final product. Use the research done in the first two pieces to create an informational presentation. Format Requirements: The final product will be a four-page paper or a five to ten-minute video. These will be uploaded into a class repository. The students have created this tool.
