TEDx SelkirkEd Theresa Southam BA, MA LESSONS LEARNED Background In 2013, Selkirk College obtained a license to create a TEDx event on the future of education. We went on to create Dancing in the Storm, a TEDx event focused on resilience in students struggling with mental health and then another in 2015, Crossing Cultural Borders, where students and instructors discussed the internationalization of education. The TEDx events are organized by The Learning Region, a local collaboration between the college, four school districts, literacy groups and the public libraries. SCHOOL FOR THE SECOND HALF OF LIFE THE PIT, CASTLEGAR CAMPUS For the past two years the Teaching and Learning Institute has collaborated with Student Services to organize a panel of professional artists who speak to Arts students about creativity blocks. MIR CENTRE FOR PEACE This program targets participants over 50 who are interested in exploring new career options in health care, education, and nonprofit work.
